De Imitatione christi. Paris, Imprimerie royale, 1640. In-folio, faux-titre, engraved title, 550p (excluding the final blank leaf). First work to come off the presses of the Imprimerie Royale. Full calf, fleur-de-lys in the boxes and at the corners, binding much restored, paper well preserved.

Important collection of quotations, without reference, from Ovid (metamorphoses, amours), Claudian (Prospérine's abduction), Virgil, and others. If no table is provided, the subjects of the quotations are indicated in glosses. The French quotations include a sonnet by Tristan l'Hermite and others by the same author (Vers héroïques, La mer). Notes on back cover. Remainder of period binding, most certainly incomplete compared to original (mainly first and last pages). A fine manuscript for study.
