1792-1798. MANUSCRIPT: (CALLIGRAPHY-MANUSCRIPT). BORJAS Y TARRIUS, BERNARDO DE: FORMS OF LETTERS OR SEVERAL CHARACTERS THAT DIBUXA AND WRITES... AT THE AGE OF FIFTEEN. [Madrid], 1792-1798. Folio mayor. 32 h. + 8 certificates issued by teachers between 1792 and 1798. Extraordinary calligraphic exercise where the student Bernardo de Borjas exercises in the composition of letters, calligraphy and translations in prose and verse, which he also adorns with elaborate borders and culs-de-lampe. These works were carried out during his stay at the Real Seminario de Nobles de Madrid in the last decade of the 18th century. Borja y Tarrius (Barcelona 1778- Talavera de la Reina 1848), studied in Madrid and later began a brilliant political career that led him to occupy various prominent positions. He was also the first editor of the Gaceta de Madrid and the Gaceta de la Regencia. This juvenile work but of extraordinary mastery, is structured in three parts: an alphabet drawn with pen where a full page is dedicated to each letter (missing the Q and R), with 6 different models, the second part are translations and poetic compositions in excellent calligraphy and adorned with ornaments drawn with pen, the third part incorporates the certificates of teachers. Enc. in period leather, with superficial cut marks on the front board. The work reveals great calligraphic skill.
