1615. BOOK: (BIBLIOGRAPHY. CALLIGRAPHY). DIAZ MORANTE, PEDRO: ARTE DE ESCREVIR INVENTADA CON EL FABOR DE DIOS POR EL MAESTRO... CONLAQUAL SABRAN NUEVA ARTE DE ESCREBIR EN MUY BREVE TIEMPO, Y CON GRAN DESTREZA Y GALA.... Madrid: with the permission of the king, 1615, 1657, 1629 and 1654. 4º larger landscape. We present the four parts of this rare work of the great virtuoso of Spanish calligraphy. The first and third parts are first edition, while the second and fourth belong to the second printing. Of the very few copies that remain, none is complete. We will describe part by part what is contained in this volume. 1615, Part One: portrait of the king + portrait of the author + 19 engraved plates with calligraphic samples (some dated 1615 and 1616) including the intaglio title page. Of this part Palau 27208, speaks of 21 plates including the title page. 1657, Second part: Madrid by Domingo Garcia Morràs, 6 h. + 16 fol. + 16 engraved calligraphic plates, includes the calligraphic title page dated 1623 in plate, although it is a second edition. 1629: Tercera parte, Madrid en la Imprenta Real, 9 h. + 29 fol. Palau 72714 1654: Quarta parte, Madrid por Diego Diaz de la Carrera, 6 h. + 4 fol. + 30 calligraphic plates, includes the calligraphic title page, it is a second edition. No copy matches each other so it is very difficult to determine an exact description, however the volume we present has plates transposed from different parts to each other, according to Cotarelo's indications. V. g. the third part of this volume presents 29 plates, but Cotarelo describes 24, in addition to the plates that do not belong to any specific part and that according to Cotarelo do not have a specific location. Marginal restorations at the tips of some plates. Enc. in a single vol. on period parchment, restored and with new labeling on the spine. In this copy we find 96 plates, including variants of the same engraving, and therefore is incomplete, however there is no complete copy in any bibliography or library consulted. CCPB 932082-2.
