SCIENTIFIC PHOTOGRAPHY. - DUSEIGNEUR KLÉBER (Edouard). Physiology of the cocoon and silk thread. Valence, Marc Aurel, 1855. In-8, green half calf, smooth spine decorated (B.D.). Rare first edition of this work illustrated with 34 (of 49) photographs on salted paper mounted on 17 plates, depicting with artistic flair cocoons, cut or whole, branches, silk knots, silk threads... This was the first book illustrated with microphotography, aimed at an industrial audience. Édouard Duseigneur-Kléber (1814-1874), sericulteur and silk merchant in Lyon, "was one of the first, perhaps the only, to apply the daguerreotype to science in his first study of silkworm diseases. This work, which took pride of place at the London Exhibition, was commissioned by an English industrial museum, where it remains to this day. "(Biographical and bibliographical note by J.
