SITTING BUDDHA
Grey schist Gandhara 4th century Dimensions: Height 35 cm Wide 20 cm Depth 7 cm with base Weight: 6659 grams with base Seated Maitreya Buddha on a rectangular base. His lower body is covered in wavy garments and a shawl is draped around his upper arms. His chest is adorned with necklaces and arms decorated with armlets and bracelets. His hands are joined in each other in his lap in a meditative pose. Large conical ear pendants frame the oval face with elegant features, the eyes are downcast. The tip of the nose is missing. The Buddha's hair is wavy and done up in a bun decorated with a headpiece or now missing tiara. A circular aureola surrounds the head.
