CROWNED AND JEWELED BUDDHA
Bronze India, ancient kingdom of Kashmir, 9th century or maybe later Dimensions: height 14 cm, width 9 cm, depth 7 cm Weight: 630 grams Seated in a yoga posture, Buddha wears a high three-part crown and fully articulated robe. His lowered hand bestowed blessings on the male donor, who kneels before him and offers an offering, probably a garland. The crown with flying ribbons shows the strong influence of Sasanian royal images on later Kashmiri art.
