Also known as Happy Buddha or Laughing Buddha or Budai in Chinese. He was a Chinese monk used to wander around carrying a large sack symbolizing abundance. He is usually depicted seated or lying comfortably, dressed in a wide robe with his large belly and chest exposed, sometimes accompanied by children. The statue is closed at the bottom.
