Bronze India 15th century style but 19th century Dimensions: Height 49 cm Wide 30 cm Depth 12 cm Weight: 5890 grams The god Vishnu generally appears as a kind and princely being, holding his attributes like here the discus and conch shell. The Preserver is standing in samabhanga on a lotus flower on a square base and has four arms. He is positioned in the center of a gate-like aureole with tiny flames and is flanked by two animals. He is dressed in a wavy garment tied around his hip with a belt, anklets, armlets, bracelets, necklaces and shoulder pads decorate his body. The sacred thread runs from the chest along his chest and around the waist. One hand is raised at chest-height showing the abhaya mudra, gesture of protection and fearlessness. His face has an attentive expression with a smile, he is wearing a high conical crown with decorative pattern. This piece was probably part of a whole temple composition.
