DANCING KRISHNA
Bronze India 16th century Dimensions: Height 7,5 cm Wide 5 cm Depth 3 cm Weight: 154 grams This depiction of Krishna refers to him as a child. He is dancing on a round lotus base with one foot lifted, the toes resting on a drum. One arm is lifted in the air while the other is stretched out holding a ball of butter. He is wearing a loincloth with tassels and the hairpiece of a child. His dance emits the joy of a child who has obtained a treat. In other depictions of his childhood he is often shown crawling on four legs as a baby often referred to as the butter thief.
