PALA SHRINE OF REVANTA (SON OF SURYA) ON A HUNT

Bronze Inda , 12th century Dimensions: Height 23 cm Wide 14,5 cm Depth 9 cm Weight: 1100 grams Shrine on expansive throne with six feet and two adorants standing on the middle step. The shrine shows three figures with mask-like faces sitting on horses. The center figure, Revanta, son of Sun God Surya, is holding a sword. The two smaller figures flanking Revanta are his hunting attendants. All of them are dressed in armour. They are backed by an open-work aureole with tiny flames. Behind Revanta's head, a large flower petal fills the open-work structure. Revanta can be considered a minor god in the Hindu canon.
