CHINESE BUDDHA Bronze China 16th century Dimensions: Height 12,5 cm Wide 8 cm Depth 5,5 cm Weight: 495 grams The Buddha is seated with legs crossed on a double reverse lotus throne with beaded rim. The foot soles are both facing the sky, the robe is symmetrically draped over his knees and fanning out nicely. His upper body is decorated with beaded necklaces and belts. Two flowers are growing from stems which he is holding in his hands forming the vitarka mudra, the gesture of teaching. The necklines are clearly visible, the broad face has small features and the eyes are downcast. The raised urna on the forehead. A winged five-pointed tiara adorns the head.
