Cheryl-Nagawuka is an 11-year-old American girl born in Helena, Montana. She grew up in a bicultural family. Her father is descended from Irish emigrants and her mother from a large Cheyenne tribe. From birth, Cheryl inherited both of her parents' first names, but plans to retain only Nagawuka when she comes of age. Cheryl is proud of her roots and wishes to honor the memory of her ancestors by recalling that her nation was one of the most courageous and stubborn Indian tribes to protect its land and way of life against the invasion of American settlers. From a very early age, her mother introduced her to the traditions of her ancestors, in particular the traditional dances that she regularly practises with other Cheyenne descendants, and which she would one day like to make her profession.
