Description

CARABINIERI HELMET AND CUIRASS SET MODEL 1811. -Helmet model 1810. Two-piece shell with high, thin crest. Brass neck cover and visor, encircled by a brass snap ring. Embossed crest decorated with a series of diminishing gadroons. Mask adorned with two branches of foliage and a guilloché border with a hook at the base. Cut-iron front band, partly bordered, topped by the "N" under the crown, held in place by a fleurette rivet. Iron back band. Scaled iron chinstraps on leather. Embossed, radiating iron rosettes, enriched in the center with a brass star. Scarlet horsehair caterpillar. A.B.E. with service marks (accident, loose nape-cap held in place by its two rivets, restoration to the iron bands and top of the crest, missing inner cap). -Cuirass. Iron front and backplate covered with brass leaf, edged with brass stud rivets. Leather shoulder straps (not original), with brass chains and clips, leather tie-rods. Leather belt (not original). With heavy canvas quilted lining (remnants on backplate, reinforced with ticking on breastplate). Stamped "AP" (Ateliers de Paris) on the breastplate and backplate. Presented on a wooden stand. Accompanied by a pair of rifleman's epaulets (early manufacture, but later than the model).
