Description

BEAUTIFUL GENERAL OFFICER'S SWORD FROM THE KINGDOM OF ITALY. Chased, engraved and gilded bronze mounting. Spindle with finely checkered ebony plates. Pommel with short oval skirt, chased with foliage, a caduceus and winged thunderbolts. Guard with one hooked leafy branch, enriched with an eagle's head, keyboard adorned with an imperial eagle bearing an "N" star on its breast, under a Lombard crown, on lightning bolts and on a background of two coats of arms enriched with Lombard and imperial crowns, and a small counter-keyboard decorated around the edge with a series of small pearls. Quillon curved towards the tip, decorated with flower buds. Triangular blade engraved, gilded and blued in thirds, signed on the heel "Ve MK" and "F". Black leather scabbard with two large brass fittings, cut out and gilded with chased decoration of striations, foliage and shells. Chased cap knob en suite. B.E. (Damage to scabbard leather).
