MANUFACTURE DE VERSAILLES. Long pair of flintlock pistols for the Orient. Round, damascus barrels, slightly blundered and beaded at the muzzles, chased in high relief on one half with military trophies, scrolls and radiating crowns on a gold-amati background. Gold-radiused silver sights. Engraved breech shrouds. Lock plates signed "Manufacture de Versailles", engraved with round-bodied swan-neck tails and dogs. Iron basins with large spark guards. Roller battery springs. Gilt silver fittings, chased and engraved with trophies "à la romaine" and music trophies, turbans, rays, foliage and foliage. Counter plates decorated with cannons and cannonballs. Strong long-eared pommels. Blackened wood crosses with long shafts, entirely decorated with inlaid silver motifs and wires. Wooden rods with bone tips. Length: 48.5 cm. B.E. (Small repair to a trigger guard tail). Circa 1810-1820. These weapons were often presented to high personalities.
