BOUTET ET FILS A VERSAILLES General officer's flintlock pistol case In varnished mahogany, with flanged edges, ivory escutcheon in the shape of a shield, lined inside with green cloth. Contains: A long pair of luxury model flintlock pistols for general officers. The barrels are hair-rifled, fluted, slightly truncated towards the muzzles, with a sandblasted, amatized base, entirely decorated with a semi of gold stars and gold fillets. Thunderbolts punched on a gold background from left to right "L. C", crowned eagle and "L.C" (Leclerc Jean canonnier). Underneath on the three sides are the three "BOUTET" bars, and stamped on the left sides "347". Finely engraved, cut-out breech tails. Flat-body locks signed at the battery spring "BOUTET Fils à Versailles". Flat-bodied dogs finely engraved with dragons and ducks, and scrolls on the jaws and bassinets. Spark arrestor bassinets lined with gold leaf. Adjustable triggers. Sumptuous chased silver fittings in high relief, decorated on the pommels with palmettes, foliage and spider webs on a sand-blasted background; on the bridges with the remains of the Nemean lion and Hercules' club, and the fronts of the bridges chased with an antique-style cuirass, a lictor beam, a winged laurel wreath and flags. Baguette entrances: shields crossed by swords, wreaths of flowers, fruit and foliage. Pan-shaped baguette loops. Platinum brackets with foliage and palmettes. Long-barreled walnut crosses, some finely chequered, with oval silver thumb pieces. Wooden sticks with silver tips and tamping. And accessories: Red morocco-sheathed powder flask with gilded fillets and silver cap, screwdriver, mallet, hammer, tamping and metering rods, bullet mould, jet cutter engraved "347", cleaning rod, oil dispenser, light-stop pin, tamping tool. And key. Marks 1798/1809, title mark: 950 department, large guarantee mark: 88 department, old man's head, goldsmith's mark: "NB" by Nicolas Noël Boutet. B.E. (Case sheathing restored.). Manufactured at the end of the First Empire. Flintlock, original, untransformed. Length of pistols: 41 cm. Case: 53.5 x 34 x 10 cm.
