NEY, Michel, Prince of Moskowa (1769-1815). Memoirs of Marshal Ney, Duke of Elchingen, Prince of Moskowa, published by his family. Paris, Fournier. 1833. 2 vol. in-8, IV and 463 pages and (1 errata leaf). 478 pages and (1 errata leaf). Covers preserved. Spines without nerves very ornate. Bindings perfectly established around 1880, in the taste of early 19th century bindings (spines sunned). A good copy of the rare first edition of Ney's Memoirs, which appears to have been printed in small numbers and not commercially distributed. A pleasant copy, complete with 2 large maps and a fold-out sketch, retaining its yellow covers, one of which, announcing that "the second issue is in press", is adorned with the imperial eagle. "These are not memoirs as such, but notes, orders and letters from the marshal arranged by his brother-in-law and incorporated into a biographical and hagiographical account" (Tulard, 1086.) The memoirs were never published in full. Handwritten 19th century bookplate: P Piercon (?) capitaine 106ème.
