FRANCE ORDER OF THE LEGION OF HONOR 1st Empire grand eagle star, later modified. In gold, with five branches and ten bolted points, enameled white, surrounded by a wreath of oak and laurel leaves, enameled green, tied with a ribbon at the bottom of the star. In the center of the obverse, the Emperor's laurelled left profile on a radiant background, surrounded by a motto on a blue enamel background, "Napoleon Emperor of the French" with star. In the center, on the reverse, the imperial eagle on a thunderbolt, on a radiant background, surrounded by the blue enamel motto "Honneur et Patrie", adorned with four stars. Scarf in red moire. Small guarantee mark 1809-1819 on the rooster and small census mark 1819. T.B. to T.T.B. First Empire period star, centers modified later. (Slight chips on one branch and white enamel hair on three branches, blue enamel around the center redone, small dent in the center of the reverse). Diameter: 70 mm. Weight: 62 g.
