RARE NATIONAL GUARD OFFICER'S POLICE CAP, MODEL 1789 MODIFIED 1792. Consisting of a flame, in dark blue cloth, with scarlet piping ending in a gold-fringed pompom, and a scarlet cloth headband. The headband is edged at the top with gold passementerie braid and embroidered at the front with the words "LA NATION LA LOI LE ROI" ("LE ROI" voluntarily deleted) in silver sequins, topped by a Phrygian cap in silver thread, white pearls and sequins. Set in a laurel-leaf wreath in silver canetille and silk thread. Inner headpiece in ecru canvas with traces of wear. Total length: 64 cm. A.B.E. (a few small holes, wear and tear). Monarchie constitutionnelle period, modified after 1792 by the deletion of the word "ROI". A rare authentic copy of the period. Rare because it was copied extensively during the centenary of the French Revolution.
