Salvatore Fergola (Naples 1796 - 1874) Venice Bacino San Marco and Grand Canal at Punta della Dogana Pair of oil on canvas 38 x 61 cm In his early pictorial expressions he showed a strong influence from Jakob Philipp Hackert; later he attended the classes of Anton Sminck van Pitloo. In 1829 he traveled to Spain, following the Bourbon family, on the occasion of the wedding in Madrid of Princess Maria Cristina of Bourbon-Two Sicilies to King Ferdinand VII of Spain. He was a leading exponent of the Posillipo school and worked successfully for important patrons including the Bourbons as evidenced by the collection of paintings preserved in the Royal Palace of Caserta.
