Alessio de Marchis (Naples 1684 - Perugia or Urbino 1752) Landscape with tower and characters Oil on canvas 31.5 x 40 cm Biographical information concerning Alessio De Marchis is handed down to us by Nicola Pio and Lanzi. According to them, Alessio was present in Rome around 1702 with Rosa da Tivoli to learn the art of painting. Around 1730 he went to Urbino to fresco the palace of Cardinal Annibale Albani. On the same occasion he also made the closet panels at the sacristy of the Confraternity of St. Joseph and other works for the Cathedral Chapter of Perugia. Our canvas can be referred to his early activity, when the influences of Flemish landscape painting are present in the complex of Roman landscape painting.
