Spanish edition, 1978 (C 062-060517). Provenance: This lot comes from the Jordi Tardà collection. Condition: Good condition. Thelonious Sphere Monk (Rocky Mount, North Carolina, October 10, 1917-Weehawken, New Jersey, February 17, 1982) was an American jazz pianist and composer. His playing and compositional style, fully formed in 1947, varied little over the next 25 years. A founding pianist of bebop, he also played under the influence of hard bop and modal jazz. He is known for his unique improvisational style, as well as for having composed several jazz standards such as "'Round Midnight", "Straight No Chaser", "52nd Street Theme" and "Blue Monk". Mark-Almond was a jazz rock band of the 1970s and early 1980s, sometimes also called The Mark-Almond Band. The principal members were Jon Mark, who sang and played guitar, percussion, and harmonica and Johnny Almond who played saxophone, flute and bass flute and sang backup. Several other musicians have recorded and toured with the duo at various times, notably drummer Dannie Richmond, long associated with legendary bassist Charles Mingus.
