Edition of 1,550 numbered copies, including 50 hors-commerce copies, this one handwritten HC 1. Exceptional documentation, with 600 often unpublished illustrations, including 350 in color. Numerous uniform reconstruction plates have been specially designed for this book. The book, published with the support of the Fondation Napoléon, is divided into 4 parts with 22 chapters: the head of the army, the army at rest, the army on campaign, the army at war. "Readers will learn all about this formidable war machine that crisscrossed Europe for years" (Subscription bulletin). Alain Pigeard devoted 15 years to his research, and visited 140 battlefields.
