CESAR (César BALDACCINI dit, 1921-1998). Nude from the Belle de Mai. Bronze sculpture in a slightly ochre brown patina, signed on the terrace and numbered EA 1/2. Circular foundry stamp BOCQUEL on the back of the terrace. Our sculpture is one of two artist's proofs of this model, designed by César in 1957 and cast around 1980, out of a total of twelve (8 numbered, 2 artist's proofs and 2 hors commerce). H_40 cm L_10 cm Provenance: former David Beccaria collection, Nice. David Beccaria ran an ice-cream business at 2 Cours Saleya, frequented by artists, notably those of the Ecole de Nice. An enthusiastic and highly regarded artist, he built up an important collection of works by his contemporaries.
