Großer Nürnberger Deckelpokal

Thin, colorless, slightly greyish blown glass, cut and partly blown, cylindrical dome on a richly structured nodus shaft with hollow balusters and profile rings, wide, slightly raised central disc foot with tear-off scar, large coat of arms with crest and buffalo horns on the front of the bowl, inscription on the reverse "HOC MONUMENTUM / AMICITAE INTEGERRIMAE / POSITUM / EST, / OPTIMO COGNATO / DOMINO / CHRISTOPHORO GVIELMO / DE MAYER / AB / AGVaK", each side with flower pots on a stepped pedestal beneath a canopy and pelmets, the foot with a laurel wreath, h 25 cm, probably Hermann Schwinger Nuremberg ~1680, matching, overhanging hooded cover with a helically twisted nodus with red thread, surrounding sunflowers, ~1720, h 34 cm overall, in good overall condition with signs of age, one profile ring slightly chipped 0601 A typical Nuremberg goblet of the 2nd half of the 17th century, the first-class, overhanging cover with a helically twisted nodus with red thread, the base with a laurel wreath, probably Hermann Schwinger Nuremberg ~1680, the first-class, overhanging cover with a helically twisted nodus with red thread, surrounding sunflowers, ~1720, h 34 cm overall, in good overall condition with signs of age, one profile ring slightly chipped. The first-class cut was probably made by Hermann Schwinger (1640 - 1683), cf: Brigitte Klesse 1973, Glass Collection Helfried Krug, Vol. II. Page 99, no. 551 with comparable coat of arms goblet, the lid dates from the 1st quarter of the 18th century and is often found at this time on Nuremberg goblets by Georg Friedrich Killinger or Friedrich Dorsch, among others, cf., Erich Meyer-Heisig 1963, Nürnberger Glasschnitt, WT 197, 198 and 218 Prov.: Sammlung Gottfried Wilhelm Butze (1821 - 1897, Regierungsrat in Berlin), Johann Franz Wilhelm Butze (1857 - 1912, Regierungsrat in Berlin and Arolsen), property of the heirs
