ROBERT LE PIEUX October 24, 996 - July 20, 1031 + ROTBERTVS REX. Cross within a grenetis. R/. SANCTA MARV. Monogram. ♦ Dy 13A Le Puy Marie silver denarius (Auvergne). (1,12 g) Very rare. Very beautiful. Robert II "le Pieux" was born in Orléans around 972 and died at the Château de Melun on July 20, 1031. He was the son of Hugues Capet and his wife Adélaïde d'Aquitaine, and the second Frankish king of the Capetian dynasty, one of the sovereigns of the year 1000. Associated with the royal family as early as 987, he assisted his father in military matters (notably during the two sieges of Laon, in 988 and 991). The florin is a typical European coin. Initially minted in Florence, the florin was widely accepted throughout Europe. Its name comes from "florenus", the Latin name for the fleur-de-lis. It was also used by other kingdoms.
