[Archaeology]. Byzantine art. Rare Byzantine seal impression in terracotta depicting Saint Symeon the Stylite. Diam. 3cm. Antique pious image brought back by pilgrims from the Holy Places. Two pilgrims and a ladder are clearly seen next to the column at the top of which stands the famous 5th-century ascetic, crowned by two angels. Provenance: Rouillac Vendôme public sale. Appraisal by Cabinet Caillou. Former French collection: Paul Gaudin (1858 - 1921), archaeological engineer, donor of the Louvre. Ref bibliographique J.-P.
