Artist info: Bohemian sculptor (1836 Český Šternberk to 1911 in Wolkersdorf im Weinviertel), son of the wood sculptor Franz Xaver Zelezny, in whose workshop he grew up, 1880-83 studied at the Vienna State School of Applied Arts under Carl Hesky and Julius Deininger, then at the State School of Applied Arts under the sculptor Anton Brenek, then worked for several years with his father before travelling, based in Vienna from 1891, exhibited at numerous important exhibitions, was a member of the Künstlerhaus, from 1907 also of the Dürerbund and later of the Österreichischer Künstlerbund (founding member), the Wachauer Künstlerbund and the Marchfelder Kunstgemeinschaft, from 1907-08 professor at the Fachschule für Holzbearbeitung in Villach, his wood carvings are particularly well known, but he worked with various materials and also created secular public, architectural and sacred works for various church interiors.
