The double top is upholstered in leather and tilted by means of a rack-and-pinion mechanism concealed in the uprights. It rests on four fluted and tapered legs ending in wheeled sabots. A large Regency brass mounted mahogany and fruitwood Carlton House writing desk circa 1820 105 x 161 x 89 cm The moulded rounded top with pierced gallery surround, inset with a gilt tooled leather writing surface, centered by a foldable bookholder, with a conforming superstructure with six drawers flanked by one door and two further drawers to each side above three frieze drawers on turned tapering baluster legs and casters. Rest. Slightly faded due to sunlight, the leather lining with wear and losses.

Beautiful ormolu fittings such as mouldings, key escutcheons, handles, falls and sabots. It features five drawers and an inset writing tablet. Style: Louis XV. Period: 19th century. H. 112 x W. 84 x D. 54 cm. (Good general condition. Restorations, minor signs of use) By family tradition, this piece of furniture belonged to the P. S. Rothschild New-York collection, as the Hanh Bros Fireproof Warehouses Inc. N-Y CITY label would seem to prove.
