Description
Porcelain PHARMACY POT with polychrome and gold decoration of a pedestal captioned "CONF: ALKER:". The latter, topped by a ewer and coral branch, is flanked by a dual decoration: on the left, a snake entwined in a foxglove branch drinks from a cup; and on the right, a salamander climbing a flower stands opposite a snail. The former represents death, the latter life, the dichotomy of medicine. Lid topped with a drop-shaped fretel. 19th century. Height: 29cm. Diameter: 10.5cm (chips, wear, cracks).
