The work presented here can be considered the first illustrated book on Northern France. Pierre Edmond Alexandre Hédouin (1820-1889) was a Boulogne-born painter-engraver-lithographer who worked with Célestin Nanteuil, creating sets for the Théatre Français and the Palais Royal. It was above all as an engraver that Hédouin came to prominence (see the long notice in Bénézit). These finely-worked lithographs depict Wissant, the Colonne de Boulogne, Auxi-le-Chateau, Arras, a view of the port of Ambleteuse, St Pol, Bapaume, Hesdin, Montreuil, the Château de Créquy... Extremely rare book, probably printed in a very limited edition. (scattered spotting).
