CHINA, Qing dynasty, 18th-19th century. Two kneeling musicians, their instruments missing. Their delicate gestures and bent heads evoke gentleness and harmony. The two-tiered, poly-lobed bases are profusely carved with masks, lingzhis, foliage etc... Zitan with beautiful patina. Total height: 19.5 cm, size of bases: 16 X 13 cm. Gaps and reattachments to damaged bases. Missing left thumb of a musician.
