Description
CHINA, Canton, circa 1900. Large vase with serrated neck and lips, decorated with scenes inscribed in medallions depicting courtiers and scholars in pavilions. On a background of Buddhist and literary objects, butterflies, flowers, etc., salamanders run in relief on the shoulder. The zoomorphic handles are gilded, as are the salamanders. Height: 60 cm and height with frame: 90 cm. Mounted as a lamp (gilded bronze mount). The gilding is slightly faded and the painting on the lip restored.
