E. Parmentier, Marguerite in "Faust", France, circa 1880 Folded fan, the double skin sheet painted with gouache of a young woman neglecting her spinning wheel to remove the leaves from a daisy. Signed on the left "E. Parmentier". The subject was inspired by Charles Gounod's successful opera "Faust", premiered in 1859. Dull reverse. White mother-of-pearl mount, cut and engraved with a repeated motif. Nickel-plated metal hanger and passementerie tassel. H.t. 28.7 cm-H.f. 16 cm (accident)
