George II silver basket with handle John Jacob, England, London, 1738, 925 silver, hallmarked, hallmark, town mark, year mark, master's mark, rare early bread or fruit basket, or later often referred to as a pastry basket, of oval form on a gallery foot, the body with a lattice pattern of crosses and rocailles, the rim with cast rocaille border, the center of the mirror with a hand-engraved coat of arms with cross, hand, bird and flame motif, the movable handle also engraved with the same coat of arms, height with handle 22 cm, length 31 cm, weight approx. 1,590.5 g, minimal signs of age in places. John Jacob was a silversmith first mentioned in 1731 under his Huguenot name Jean Jacob, who produced silverware of the highest quality.
