TWO porcelain MEDAILLONS one depicting a harpist by the sea, bearing a label on the back "Porcelaine de Sèvres, représentant un paysage avec chiffre sur l'arbre du gl de St Cyr"; the second decorated with a military trophy with coat of arms, bearing a handwritten label on the back "Porcelaine de Sèvres représentant les armes du gl de St Cyr, inspecteur de la manufacture". (Restorations) 19th century Diameter: 16.5 cm In mahogany frames. Claude Carra de Saint Cyr (1760-1834) From a family originally from the Lyonnais region, Claude Carra joined the army at the age of 13. He took part in the American War of Independence, then served in the armies of the Revolution. Appointed general in 1795, he distinguished himself at Marengo, then at Eylau. Created a Baron d'Empire in 1808, he was one of the first to join Louis XVIII, who made him a Count and Knight of Saint Louis in 1814. His name appears on the Arc de Triomphe.
