Charles Louis Lucien MULLER (Paris 1815?(?) -1892) Glory distributing palms and crowns Project for a ceiling. Oval canvas. Monogrammed lower left. 61 x 71 cm Study for the ceiling of the cupola of the Mollien staircase in the Musée du Louvre. Another sketch, less finished and smaller, is in the Louvre's painting department (RF1988?5). The Pavillon Mollien, with its staircase built by Hector Lefuel for Napoleon III's new Louvre, was inaugurated on August 14, 1857; the decoration came later, after 1869.
