Eiri Chôkyôsai (attributed) (active 1789 - 1801 in Japan) - (Complete set of 13 Oban yoko-e shunga (erotic pictures) from the series Fumi no kiyogaki (models of calligraphy) (Complete set of 13 Oban yoko-e shunga (erotic pictures) from the series Fumi no kiyogaki (models of calligraphy) Nishiki-e (colored woodblock print on Japan). Edo period, 1615-1868, (around 1801). Each approx. 25.9 x 39 cm (sheet size). The series of 13 pictures is attributed to Chôkyôsai Eiri, a pupil of Hosoda Eishi (1756-1829). It contains references to well-known shunga woodcuts (spring pictures) by the famous Kitagawa Utamaro (1753-1806). One scene in the album shows a well-dressed European, who is said to be an elderly Dutch merchant, with a courtesan from Nagasaki. Both are heavily dressed for winter, but she is leaning out of an open Western-style window, suggesting that they are on the East India Company grounds on Dejima Island. - Each with a smoothed centerfold, occasional light spotting as well as a few sheets on the verso with remnants and traces of former mounting. Overall in good condition.
