Description

TRELLON (Gabriel de).

Six chants, des vertus. Paris, Guillaume Bichon, 1587. In-12, contemporary vellum. Extremely rare first edition of this poem in six songs divided into stanzas of eight verses, on the theme of virtues. The poem is preceded by a dedication to the Duc de Joyeuse and a lengthy preface to the reader. Gabriel de Trellon (spelled Trelon in the book), King's Councillor at the Parliament of Toulouse, was the brother of Claude de Trellon, the author of La Muse guerrière: the penultimate leaf contains a sonnet by the latter, addressed to his brother. Bichon's typographical mark on the title (Silvestre, n°1282). From the libraries of Herpin (1903, n°237), Frédéric Lachèvre, and Marie Chèvre (I, 2011, n°242). Small split without missing on the edge of the title, a few soiled first leaves. Small tear on spine. Diane Barbier-Mueller, Inventaire..., n°844.
