Recueil de Poesie, presente a tresillustre princesse Madame Marguerite, sœur unique du Roy, & mis en lumiere par le commandement de madicte Dame. Paris, Guillaume Cavellat, 1553. In-8, black morocco, triple gilt fillet, gilt coat of arms in center, ornate spine, tan morocco lining with gilt fillet, chocolate brown moire endpapers, case (G. Plumelle). Second edition, partly original, of Joachim Du Bellay's first collection of poems, originally published in 1549 and dedicated to his principal patron, Marguerite de Valois, Duchess of Berry. It contains 4 previously unpublished pieces, including the poem À une dame, in which Du Bellay denounces the art of pétrarquiser. The rest of the volume follows the text of the original edition: it includes the Prosphonématique au Roy treschrestien Henry II, the Chant triomphal sur le voyage de Boulogne 1549 au moys d'aoust and the Vers lyriques, odes, chansons, addressed to various major figures including Henri II, Marguerite de Navarre, the poet Saint-Gelais, the Guise, etc. Bound in doubled morocco, with the collector's coat of arms.
