BLANCHON (Joachim).

Les Premières œuvres poétiques. Paris, Pour Thomas Périer, 1583. In-8, contemporary soft vellum. First edition, dedicated to Henri III and adorned with a fine copper-engraved portrait of the monarch. Joachim Blanchon, a poet from the Limousin, claimed to be influenced by Petrarch, Desportes and, above all, Ronsard. His poetic collection includes a large number of sonnets, as well as odes, elegies and chansons. They include the Amours de Dione, the Amours de Pasithée, the Trésor de sentences, and a curious poem entitled Des trente beautés de la femme. A rare copy in contemporary vellum. Wet stamp on the title of the Ecole Ste Geneviève de Versailles. A few leaves are foxed and wet, and the body of the volume is detached from the spine. J. P.
