Description
Johann Georg Pendel, attributed to The Holy Family with St. John the Baptist Wood, carved, patinated. The relief inscribed on the reverse with "Hans Georg Pendel fecit Prag (.) 1652" shows the Holy Family accompanied by the boy John and two angels in an oval composition. The court sculptor Johann Georg Pendel (Jan Jiri Bendl), who had been based in Prague since 1651, is considered one of the most important artists of the Bohemian early Baroque period. Fine vertical tear to left margin. Mounted in a newer wooden frame. 19.5 x 15.5 cm (oval). Provenance Private ownership, Austria.
