Südliche Niederlande um 1510/1520

Southern Netherlands around 1510/1520 Corpus Christi Oak wood, carved in the round and partially free-form. Arms recognizably attached, the drops of blood carved and inserted separately. Minor remnants of a former painted version. High-quality and expressive depiction of the crucified in the three-nail type. The striking physiognomy and the long locks of hair hanging down from beneath the crown of thorns have parallels in the depictions of Christ in the southern Netherlands at the beginning of the 16th century. Parallel cracks on the top of the head and the left breast. Two fingertips lost, one toe replaced. Minor chips. Corpus Christi height 83 cm, arm span 53 cm. The younger cross, not originally belonging to it, 112 x 62 cm. Provenance Probably Langenscheid Collection (label on the back of the cross). - Private collection Turnhout from 1985 to 2018, since then in Brussels family ownership through succession.
