Flämisch frühes 16. Jahrhundert
Flemish early 16th century Four apostles Wood, each carved three-quarters round, the backs slightly flattened. Very deep circular holes on the underside. Older, colored mounts, some of which have been replaced. Four sculptures designed for front view, probably from a former twelve-part series of apostles. The book and key attributes identify Saint Peter, while the young and beardless apostle is Saint John. The other two apostles are not clearly identifiable due to the lost attributes. Impacts with losses. One toe and one hand lost. Height 34 and 35 cm respectively. Provenance Belgian private collection.
