Description
Wohl Oberrhein um1470/1480
Probably Upper Rhine around 1470/1480 Madonna with child Wood, carved in the round. Slightest remains of a former painted version. High-quality sculpture of the crowned Madonna standing in a measured contrapposto, holding the moving, naked infant Jesus, who is holding an apple, with both hands in front of her body. The fine workmanship, which can be seen particularly in Mary's hair falling far down her back, is also evident in the detailed design of the folds of Our Lady's robe. The arms of the child have been added again. Only minor wear with small losses, especially to Mary's crown. Height 43 cm.
