Description

Vienna Globe Table Burl wood, fruitwoods, oak and ebonized wood on oak, iron locks. On a Corinthian column and three-pass base. Upper spherical segment hinged backwards as a lid. Inside a miniature architecture with portico, in front three compartments with lids, behind a secret box. Elderly restored shrinkage cracks and flaws, the entire surface sealed with reddish varnish. H 97, diameter 53 cm. Vienna, late 19th century. Globe tables were one of the highlights of Viennese cabinetmaking during the Biedermeier period. Difficult to construct, only a few were made.
