Pair of large cassolettes d'époque restoration Fire-gilded bronze. Cast in several parts and screwed together. Baluster vases with raised volute handles on rectangular pedestals. Recessed spouts under the corresponding lids. Rich relief decoration of antique leaf ornaments and trophies alternating between matt and bright gilding. H 45.5 cm. Paris, c. 1820, attributed to Thomire & Compagnie. Pierre Philippe Thomire (1751 - 1843) learned his craft in the workshop of the famous Parisian bronzier Pierre Gouthière, an outstanding ciseleur-doreur. He received his first commissions for the court in the 1780s. He achieved his breakthrough under Napoleon, who provided him with numerous commissions. After Napoleon's fall, he had major financial problems, but the company continued to exist until the 1850s, although from 1819 it traded under the name "Thomire & Compagnie".
