Johann Georg Mettel, zugeschrieben

Perpetual calendar with writing tablet Silver. Flat, rectangular silver binding with extremely finely engraved flowers and acanthus and four inset ivory panels. The cover, engraved "Calendarium Perpetuum", shows the seven days of the week with adjustable date display. The base, engraved "FEST UND FEUERTAEG", shows the change in day and night length as well as the time for sunrise and sunset by setting the month with the most important name days. Unmarked. H 7.6; W 4.3 cm. Nuremberg, attributed to Johann Georg Mettel, early 18th century. Expertise Marketing authorization DE-K-240325-150 for the EU internal market available. Literature Cf. an almost identical calendar attributed to Mettel in the Kunstgewerbesammlung der Stadt Bielefeld, Huelsmann Collection, illustrated in Cat. Scientific Instruments and Sundials, Munich 1989, no. 99. A signed calendar by the master is in the collection of the Bavarian National Museum, illustrated in cat. GNM 2007, no. 768. This object was made using materials for which a CITES permit is required for export to countries outside the EU. We would like to point out that a permit is not usually issued.
