Pair of candlesticks for Elector Friedrich Christian of Saxony Silver. Round, profiled base with central hollow; the baluster shaft with cylindrical spout. Engraved ligature monogram FC with princely hat and inventory number 26 and 28 on the underside. Marks: BZ Dresden, MZ Christian Heinrich Ingermann (1743 - 1778, Rosenberg no. 1664, 1799). H 15.3 cm, weight 540 g. Dresden, Christian Heinrich Ingermann, 1763. Frederick Christian was the third son of Frederick Augustus II and succeeded his father on the throne of the Saxon Electors on October 5, 1763 for only 74 days before he died of smallpox on December 17 at the age of only 41. Until his eldest son, Frederick Christian III, came of age, his wife exercised the guardianship of the regency together with his brother Francis Xavier. This pair of candlesticks can also be found in the Silver Chamber inventory of 1789: pages 822 and 823 list "Fifty round game candlesticks, marked with FC", including numbers 26 and 28, which are up for auction, with their weights in marks and lots. On the opposite page of the inventory, under "Disposal", it is noted that numbers 22 - 49 were sold in 1816 "by the highest order". Provenance Dutch private collection.
