(1608). RICHEOME (Louis). L'IDOLATRIE HUGUENOTE figurée au patron de la vieille païenne, divisée en huit livres. Lyon, Pierre Rigaud, 1608. In-8, [56]-736-[45]-1bl. pages, ivory vellum, double gilt frame on covers, gilt arms in center of covers, smooth spine richly decorated with gilt flowers and branches, gilt edges (period binding). This first edition, dedicated to Henri IV, opens with a handsome engraved title by J. de Fornazeri. This violent and copious attack provoked an immediate response from Pastor Bansillon: "L'Idolâtrie papistique", to which Father Richeome replied with a "Panthéon Huguenot découvert et ruiné" that put an end to the quarrel. Many of the books by this famous Provençal Jesuit "Le Cicéron de son Temps" were published in Lyon. One loose leaf from another copy. Lined title, a fine copy in gilt vellum with the arms of the Chilleau d'Airvault family.
